Having an experience of three decades, how do you take the development of gym and fitness industry in India?
It is interesting to see how the demand for fitness products and services has grown by leaps and bounds over the last decade.
The dawn of technology and need of people to gather more information has been one of the many vital factors that have led customers to take a plunge in fitness and thus actively seeking products and services to help them remain fit. Most products and services in the market today aim at providing consumers with new and stimulating ways to maintain good health and well-being.
While on one hand there are people who visit gyms and fitness clubs to get in better shape or gain more strength, there are also people who want to lead an active lifestyle and are thus opting for enjoyable, engaging, and off-beat fitness activities like Zumba, Pilates, MMA, kickboxing, aerobics, etc.
Can you throw some light on your journey till date?
I was always and still passionate about the concept of Fitness and inspiring people to attain fitness. I get up every morning and I’m excited about it. We are in a business that is trying to motivate people to do what come natural, which is move. And if we’re physically active, a whole bunch of other good things happen in our lives: We’re cognitively stronger, our social relationships are better; we’re healthier and live longer. I get excited about what we’re doing, and I want more people to know about it. That’s our job, but I feel very fortunate to be working for a business that promotes Good Health and that even more increases my passion about the segment. My journey so far has been beautiful and inspiring.
In your commercial gym set up package, how many installations have your brand Body Line fitness has done so far?

Industry Experts forecast a huge surge in the fitness equipment market in India. What is your company’s ambition for the Indian Market and how do you plan to tap this potential market?
Sometimes the biggest challenge is the biggest opportunity: Eastern India Market.
We claim the position in the market in a strategic way, understanding the requirement of the customer and the current trend where thankfully people are health conscious and started to take fitness in a serious way. We will come up with fitness innovation and communicating to people that fitness is just not an activity but a way of life.
We are not experimenting a lot of new things rather trying to improvise on our products & services and also exploring new ways and methods to reach to more and more end users. Staying relevant and compelling and exceeding the customers’ expectations are essential to our future growth. We’re always looking for ways to evolve and get better. As an Industry leader it is also important for us to set standards in the Industry and promote new trends & bring in the latest technology and effective products.
One must focus on their market position vis-à-vis competition and not compare themselves to their own past. The drive must be on leadership rather than to follow.
What is your point of view over present fitness industry in India?
It has been witnessed that many small structures are making way for methodical retailing and the trend will only accelerate in the coming times, with the entry of global players, home grown startups as well as online marketplace business models, structured around the gyms and fitness domains- not only fitness services, but also products. The market is looking up. Thanks to today’s fast paced, hectic modern lifestyles which seldom allow a person to workout actively or follow a well-crafted fitness regime. East India is no doubt growing but at steady rate of 20% year on year, which I personally feel, can do much better. There’s a phenomenal energy both inside and outside right now and we’ve never seen more passion for sport or enthusiasm for our brands. While we all know the current business climate is volatile, and no company is immune, Bodyline is very well positioned to continue to deliver growth.
There has been generous growth as the awareness about fitness is increasing day by day, but the fitness industry in India is largely unorganized and lacks a definite structure.
